Default Transmission shifting question

Sorry if this isn't the correct way to start the forum as it's my first time posting. I have a 88 LX with a 306 in it not sure the trans but my problem is 2nd gear. IF the car isn't moving I can put it in second gear and shift out to any other gear but if the car is moving second gear grinds but is possible to go into. I usually just skip 2nd and go to third but would like to know what is possibly wrong or ways to fix it without taking it to a trans shop to pay 150 buck to diagnose it. Thanks

Its probably a T5. Common issue with these trannys is bad synchos in 2nd and especially 3rd gear. You can buy rebuild kits for these trannys as well as every other part. They are very common. I got my stuff from Hanlon Motorsports a few years.

If that is the problem what would be better to go with the refresh or the rebuild? Clueless about transmission not sure where the synchos's would be.
