Default Jackpot!

I just visited a guy that had a craigslist add up for some ford parts.. He is scrapping a bunch of metal and a couple of full chasis ford trucks. Has a couple of engines, mufflers, and misc. stuff sitting around. I went by with the wife (love her for coming with me, and in her new car down a dirt road). The guy gave me a set of stock 5.0 headers and says I can come by and take whatever I want tomorrow, would have let me today, but i told him I didnt want to keep the wife waiting. The headers will probably go on the 67's 289, I picked up cast iron paint today to clean and paint the stock manifolds.. Looks like Ill be cleaning these instead.

Also going to pick up the distribution blocks from both trucks. The dynomax and flowmaster mufflers, and whatever else I can scrounge. He has a t5 bellhousing, pressure plate and throwout bearing that he is giving away.. Excited! I swear this is karma from me giving a good old boy my opentracker shelby drop template!

Good haul, but....
5.0 headers will not fit on a vintage car, there are too many interference problems on one side or both. I've already looked into it with the ones I had.

They can fit. Someone here actually did it this summer. Jaws hit floors, myth slammed!

Im going to give it a try, I did notice that they wont attach to the original Y pipe for the single exhaust due to the angle of the headers.. Ill put a pic up in a lilttle bit to see if we can squash the problem..

Here's a pic of the headers next to the original manifold.

Here are the results:
The passenger side fits great. Drivers side hits on the steering box and the bellhousing.. Examples:

D/S, bolted up after a little grinding of the collector flange. It is fully welded all the way around the top, so I figured taking a little off wouldnt hurt.

It just barely touches the top of the steering box, and I mean like a hair of space.. The flange is what kept it from going in at first.

I think it will be pretty tight with the drivers side and the angle of the collector output. It points pretty steeply towards the floor, and the steering linkage at the box. But I think with the correct bend at the ball flange to bring it out, a custom exhaust would be easy to fab up.

When I tried my stock 5.0 headers on my 67 they hit the bellhousing, steering box, and equalizer bar.

Yep, mine is an automatic, so no worry on the equalizer bar. I think Ill set them aside for a rainy day and a new exhaust system. Going to paint my manifolds and stick them back in.
