Hey all,
I am new here and glad to join this community so please forgive me if this has been posted before. I recently came into a 1989 Mustang GT auto. and am stuck on which direction to go. I DON'T want to race it or anything (past those days), but simply want to drive it, or maybe put it in shows if it turns out really nice. So, here is the question I am stuck at:

1. Do I do a custom type job where I turn the interior black (gray currently), throw in TMI mach 1 seats, and chrome it up some.

2. Restore it as if it came fresh from the factory.

Which would work best if I ever decided to show it? Thanks.

Definitely show room stock will get you more trophys, you just don't see many stock mustangs around. And if your car is a clean, stock example to begin with, well I wouldn't bling it up. Just my opinion, you have to do what trips your trigger. And welcome here, glad to have you.

To answer your second post, I still think a clean, stock mustang will bring more money to a point. I'm sure you know when you start modding a car, its like kissing that money goodbye, you'll never get it back. But, playing the devils advocate, I'd rather drive my modded Mustang than a stocker. Tough call on which way to go. I look at it this way, when I get up for work in the morning, shuffle out to the garage, open the door, what's gonna put a bigger smile on your face, stock or mod?

This is really good advice. At first I was thinking custom job all the way because that's what you see at car shows, but after chatting with you I remembered my initial reasons for getting the car. I always wanted a fox body as a kid but couldn't afford it (or the insurance) so restoring the car might be best, especially if I can show it. From what you say, finding a high performance mustang wouldn't be too hard if I ever got the bug. Now I just have to find all the original code information. I hope I can call on you again as I continue the process. Thanks!

Glad to help, this forum is packed full of useful information. Do a search on any topic and pages will come up as someone has definitely been there before.

Or just start another topic on a new thread, there are some really smart guys on here that live and breath this stuff. Good luck, and keep us informed on the progress.

I second orange peel, factory stock is worth more. On car shows, some favor factory stock, and others favor heavily modded; there's a place for both. Factory stock is probably the easier cheaper path. In the end, I do what I want with my car - it is mine and nobody else's opinion counts (except my wife's, but she gives me free rein in this area).
