What exactly is a port and polish job? What does it do? How much does it cost? What does it mean to get your heads milled? Are they the same thing?
Thanks..sorry im a young buck and was just wondering

porting: grind out material to make the intake runnner a large opening - more air can get in = more power
polishing: polish intake runner for super smooth surface. - more air flows in easier = more power
milling: cut down the bottom surface of the head, this will make the combustion
chamber of the head smaller and raise compression for a gain in hp.

porting can run $300-$1000
same for milling
porting was more of an old school thing back in the 80's and earlier to make the
old iron heads flow better.
Now-a-days we have nice aftermarket aluminum heads to turn to.
You will also see stuff listed as "CNC Ported", that means a computer
controled machine did the work vs. some guy at a bench with an air grinder.

when i had my stock heads reworked it was expenseve..
first shop........
i bought manly valves 400 bucks
comp cams springs 100 bucks
ported milled $400 bucks
took it a shop that a new someone of to check over the work. first shop screwed it up and u could look through the exhaust and see daylight. and they screwed up my valves but they replaced them
took it the other shop had the heads fixed and a 3 angle valve job done and port matched the gaskets
another 400 bucks
with the money i spent i could have bought some high flowing aluminum heads
