how do i test to see if ia blown head gasket? open the radiator cap and look for bubbles?
could a vacuum leak cause thick white smoke that burns my eyes? (it used to be black until i took the h pipe off..so i figured out the pipes was turning the smoke black)

you can purchase a kit called a block tester..it's a flask with a squeeze ball and solution that tests for hydrocarbons in the cooling system and can be purchased at places like napa

ok guys i am an employee of advance auto parts and i am currently going to school to become a mechanic
this stuff just like all other radiator stop leaks look for a "leak" the only problem is it sees those coolant passage holes in the headgasket(the really small ones over the coolant passages) as a leak and clogges them up making cooling problems
and yes we have ALOT of used car lots buying stop leaks of all kinds through our commercial dept. for the cars they are selling

I work at AutoZone and we have a product called Blue Devil and it's 49.99. It works awesome. I used it on a turbo 2.0 sohc neon and it worked for over 1 year and then i sold it.

If you just want a cheap fix then you could try the stop leak, but those products are just bandades.
mom had a pontiac grand am once and it kept overheating. One day she called me and said the temp guage was pegged (280 or something). I told her to just keep driving it. She did and the car never overheated or leaked coolant again!! Probobly melted the head gasket, but who cares cause it was a pontiac. I figuredI would just share this cause it's pretty funny, butPlease, for the love of god, don't do this to your mustang!!!!!
