noticed today while sitting talking with friends that my 95 was running a bit hot after driving it a couple minutes the temp when right down. While looking into it i noticed that the cooling fan is not coming on. Can someone give me an idea where to start with this?

thermostat going bad maybe

next to the thermostat there's also a temperature sensor that the computer uses to figure out when to turn the fan on that could also be going bad.

I'm sure the thermostat is ok...when driving temperature stays like it should. the only time the car gets hot is when we are sitting still.

mine does it too lol must be a SN95 thing.

But umm, Turn on your A/C your fan should come on. While sitting still Turn your A/C on cold and Fan Speed on High, if the fan comes on then your Coolant Temp Sensor is out, if not than your fan is bad, Which is what happend to mine not to long ago. But mine was the sensor and the Fan.

Its in the passenger fender area... They are known to go bad. But I wouldnt condemn it right away

What you need to check is if the fan works, & if it does, what engine temperature does it come on at ?
You can run a jumper cable to check if the fan works ,direct from the battery. If it works then the problem is in the fan wiring or the fan control circuit. Check all wires & connections to the fan & if they are all good, it's likely the fan temp sensing circuit.

Be careful since you don't want anything to get caught in the fan blade if it starts up.
Years ago I had a Ford Fiesta, which the fan would come on too often, the opposite of your problem. Basically the engine only needed the fan if stuck in a traffic jam for 10 mins or more. I wired a relay & controlled the fan from inside the car. Worked better for me that way.

Mine when bad a few months ago. The car would get hot even with the car running 65 on the freeway so I dont think its that. When my CCRM went out I couldnt run the car for more that 2 min without the car overheating so....I dont think its that. Good luck!
