Lifter noise

Lifter noise
Ok guys basically this little noise is really starting to get to me..We put my car together two months ago..Maybe a little less... But the guy that did most of the labor told me it would take a little time for lifters to pump up/break in. But the noise is still there..What should I do? Put new lifters in or give it more time? Or should there even be a noise in the first place is it normal??

The lifters should have filled with oil a long time ago. Who did the work? I'd take it back to him if you paid for it. The longest I'd ever heard lifters take to quiet down was a couple days. Usually you can run the car for about a half an hour and it'll get quiet.

He was like since your putting cams in it could take up to a month at the longest for everything to quieten down.. It sounded like bs to me in the first place but he has built alot of 2v..He did my buddys 96 and it was noisy for about 2 weeks and it went away..I was figuring since I only drive mine on weekend it would take longer..But nope still there.

Hello I two am having the same issue. I have a 98 cobra and I am getting a ticking noise in the right head. When the car warms up it almost goes away execpt at idle. I have had three diffrent mechanic friends of mine listen to this noise and we all agree its a lash adjuster, jeff37110 I was wondering if you could post a video of the noise I am curious to hear it, I would be pissed to replace all 16 lash adjusters in that head and doesnt fix the tick. No tick at all going down the road only first crank up til oil pressure builds up good and at idle.

found out today its not the lifters on mine its the dam timing set up. when we put it together the drivers side cam moves and i did not know it. and the chain is loose. that makes the sound. pull the valve cover and if you can feel slack in the chain it might be your sound.

This translates to you have piston to valve interference and thankfully the stock valves are stiff enough they will eventually wear a notch into the piston top. I have measured all of the popular cams and know that most all of them are kissing the pistons with most motors, and I have a stash of bent valves to prove it.
BTW - I have never had "lifter noise" from a motor I have built no matter how big the cam, but I always have a minimum of 0.030" of piston to valve clearance.

We clayed my pistons and we had over .080 clearance..So thats not my problem..I knew it was going to be tight as far as that went so we searched around for different valves. And .030 clearance is a little tight if thats how your building yours..Most engine builders recommend at least .080..
