Parking brake adjustment?

Parking brake adjustment?
Ok so I followed the instructions according to the Haynes manual and when I finally got it tight enough to where it would not roll anywhere I was not able to pull the parking brake again once I released it for the first time.
Do my rear drums probably needed to be adjusted? Nighttime came on me so I just set the parking brake pack to where it was where it clicks but it was no function since it still rolls everywhere
Any ideas?

Are you using the stock lever? Not the one under the dash but the one under the transmission? When I used the stock setup, the under dash lever moved about 80% of its travel before the brakes engaged. It held the car very well. Did you adjust the cable too tight? One tip is to press the brake pedal as you pull the lever. This 'pre-loads' the brake shoes closed and then you just add tension to keep the pads against the drum.
Your drums are self adjusting. That toothed wheel inside the drum turns to keep the shoes close to the drum.

Thanks for that tip I got it to engage that way. Tightened the cable just enough to where I could press the brake in as far as I could and pull the cable as much as I could.
Stays put in the driveway now even if I push all my weight on it.
Thank you very much

hmm good to know on the brake pedal trick.
i unhooked the e brake cable this winter when i yanked the rear to put new leafs on.
when i put it back i just kind of guessed it. i didnt measure how much of the bolt was stickin out, just kind of put a finger up to it for the time being lol
