Question wheel to tire size on 2012 Mustang

Will a 235/50/18 tire work ok with a 9 inch wide wheel. The tire brand is nitto and they list a 8 1/2 max wheel size for a 235 tire. The tire dealer said it would work ok but I am not sure. I am putting new wheels and tires on my 2012 Mustang next week. What is the widest tire size that would fit the Mustang in a 18 X9 wide wheel and not rub? I was also thinking of calling the dealer and changing to a 255/45/18 size. Any Help Appreciated. Best Regards, Forton

I'm willing to bet the 235 will be too narrow. I'd go no lower than 245.

I just installed new tires on my car a couple weeks ago. I went with 275 series front and back. Fronts rub a little during a full lock to lock turn. You should go with 255 series.

I have 255/45zr18s on 9in rims. They look great and do not rub. You need to make sure
You have the right rims with the correct offset, and rims that do not hit your brakes.

I went with the 255x45x18 tires with 9in Black Machined GT500 wheels from American Muscle. They look GREAT on my Mustang. Thanks for all the help. Best Regards. Forton

The larger tires made no effect on my mileage or 0-60 times. I switched back to the stock tires for winter. My best 0-60 time is 5.6 (I put a camera in the dash) I get about 31-32 mpg on the highway as long as I stay under 70 mph. I get 28 mpg at 80 mph.

i'd go with a wider tire,

it will help protect the rims too. unless you like that stretched out look
