What different years of 8.8 rear ends fit our car for a direct swap? Do new edge ones fit? Newer? Etc.. I've heard the 2011 fits but something needs changing on it. Any info here would be nice since an older one may be easier to find for me

You have to get a rear end from a 2005+. It doesn't matter whether it is a 2005 or 2012 (or 2013 which will be out soon). They all mount the same way; it is just with the 2011+ the flange is the same for the 2007 V6 so you don't have to change to the cobra flange.

You can't get a rear end for the earlier years. They are a 4 link mount, we have a 3 link.

What about 8.8 gears would 3.73 from a 96 ford explorer 8.8 fit in a 2012 8.8 axle?

Thanks Jim, that's too bad since the new edge ones are all over Craigslist.

Someone might say different, but my understanding is if they are for a ford 8.8 axle then they will fit. That's why 8.8 gears from a 87 can be put into 05 mustang.

Keep looking on craigslist they are out there, I just got an 8.8 with 4.10 for $350 and it has zero gear whine.

I was going to but it had a really bizzare gear ratio listed and I messaged the guy and he never got back to me about it

You can send me a link anytime you like. I going to be looking forever. People around here just don't have mustangs like other parts of the country
