Default Underdrive pulley question

So my 03 gt has underdrive pulleys. I'm unsure on the brand, however,it's definitely not Steeda. Maybe BBK or SR Performance brand. Anyways, my question... The crank pulley has an extra pulley attached to it as if it were for an accessory. It's not used, so would a person be able to remove this without messing up any balancing issues? Only curious because that's a bit of rotational weight that I would assume isn't necessary. Sorry if this has been covered or seem like an amateur question. I'm not fully familiar with the pulley setup on these motors.

you have the piggy back style under drive pulleys. It takes the factory balancer and sandwhiches the underdrive lower pulley between the crank and balancer. You cannot remove the balancer!

^+1, do NOT remove the harmonic balancer. Piggyback UDPs are a cheap kludge, something no serious enthusiast would use--get a proper set with an SFI rated replacement balancer...

Improper pulley size makes the fan and water pump turn too slow or too fast. Production water pumps are normally run at 20% over engine speed and do not perform well over 5000 engine rpm. Under-drive pulley's generally reduce water pump speed to 85% of engine rpm and may not provide enough water flow to cool the engine.

That's the Ford book answer, your car will thank you if you put a stock pulley on.

This ^ is true, however I have been running Steeda's UDPs here in Florida for 3-1/2 years and 85k miles, and have never had any cooling or charging (or AC) problems--FWIW here is an analysis I did of the of the ratios and accessory drive speeds "way back then":

For many it's an idea of $:Hp ratio.

I never went with the UDP's because the cost of a good set was about the same cost a weekend at the track learning to drive. ...never did figure that part out, lol.

Also, if you ever plan on going F/I, you'll need to take them off.

The slight return of lost Hp would be barely noticeable if you have other mods. I'd say save your ducks and get a good set of cams or something else.

..but that's just me spending your money. Post some pictures of your ride.

I'd recommend keeping the stock alt pulley on. After about 4 months it would kill my brand new battery. I put the stock pulley on and it has been fine ever since.

i did not have cooling issues with the steeda udp's i had prior to the blower. i'm in southern california and while humidity is low, it gets to 100+ in the summer time. that said, i think our temp guage sucks nongs because it once it warms up it stays in the same position as opposed to when i monitor with a tuner which reveals much more about the actual state of affairs

I actually just ordered cams for it today. Hitech stage two. Love the sounds and have heard many positive things about Hitech. Plus they are only a few hours away from me.

Here are a couple pictures.
Found a black cobra at the track, so I had to park next to it
