I put a 5 liter from an '89 in an '89 body. The only issue was the intake was a little too tall. Car ran great. Only about 4 wires to hook up the brain. It even passed smog inspection.
I think a first Gen swap is easier.
There is a kit available to make it a direct bolt in. I believe it was Granny's Speed Shop.

Had to raise the back of the hood a little.

Then I put the Turbo 13b in my '75 911.
Blew it up on the track at 130 MPH so put in a built Turbo 13B
After this pic I added a water to air intercooler.

Hell I've seen a 2-rotor mustang. It's not hard at all. It's been done quite a few times.

My first car was a 74 Corolla and I always wanted to put a 350 in it. Figured I'd have to put concrete in the trunk to get the wheels to hook up. Never did get around to it.
