8.8 rear end or 3.73 gears?

I agree with the group here, but I upgraded my 7.5 to 3.73's and t-lok. I chose Ford Racing gears and had them installed at Pro Dyno. That was over 40,000 miles ago and she's still holding up fine. And I don't exactly baby the car and have taken it to the track for a few runs. But you might as well go for the 8.8 if you have the opportunity.

because the 7.5's aren't made for it?
because I should have gotten a GT?
Just thinking about doing exactly that...put an lsd and 3.73's in a 7.5 rear end. I may save my money.https://mustangforums.com/forum/images/icons/icon11.gif

I am currently ordering a new lsd for my rear end, and i alredy had 3.73's i had to find an excuse to install but it took me 40,000 miles of 300+ rwhp and an asswoopin on it every day for it to finally trim the teeth off the gears. If you arent 300+rwhp and dont plan to be anytime soon you will do great with just gears

Just wondering why... Because the cost does not justify the means?

Unless you are capable of doing all the work yourself, and repeating it when necessary, it will cost you as much or more to build a 7.5 as it will to just buy a 8.8 with everything you want already installed and swap it over. And you will still have a weak link in that rear end; plus if you need to rebuild that tlok you will find out that no one makes a rebuild kit for a 7.5.
I spent more to build a 7.5 with tlok, 3.73's and LPW girdle than it cost me to get the 8.8 and swap it in after I broke the 7.5. All it took was a CAI, tune, and set of drag radials to break the 7.5 - and that was on a set of Richmond gears that 2 shops said were "indestructible". Bent the pinion within a year.
So the cost doesn't justify it (and in fact it is tough to find a tlok now for the 7.5).

The 8.8 is a tougher rear. If you find a used 8.8 with 3.73 already in it, you'll save time and money. You will end up with a stronger, longer lasting setup. If you have to have new parts, you can buy a FRPP 8.8 pre-built rear with 3.73's. I'd look for a low mileage used one first. IMO... go with the 8.8 rear.

It has nothing to do with the "should have got a GT" junk.

If I were to find an 8.8 rear end with the lsd, and 3.73's or 4.10's or better than stock, wouldn't that be an easier install?
Because its already put together. You just have to fork up $1200 for it.
