Valve knock at WOT
Ok so you might be thinking "don't stomp on it dummy" but let me explain. When I really step on it, it doesn't matter if I'm only doing 2000 rpm or 3500+ rpm, the top end sounds like something is going to come flying out at any second. But if I back off a little and let the rpms build a little slower the engine hums perfectly.
I know my valve stem seals are worn as I get the lovely blue puff of smoke after the car sits for a few hours, but it doesn't burn oil otherwise (just got smogged last month and readings are excellent) and I'm checking the oil weekly in case I need a small top off.
96 gt is stock engine wise other than a basic bama tune. No CEL, no other issues. Does this sound like a true valve train issue or possibly detonation, timing issues, or some other electronic issue messing with the pcm and giving me grief?
Thinking I'll flash the car back to stock tune tomorrow to see if anything changes but it's a little embarassing when you romp on the gas and your gt sounds like a POS beater running on 1 qt of oil. Not that I floor it all the time, but it's nice to be able to feel/hear the acceleration from a red light.

Getting ready to go flash back to stock and I'll post my results. I've got the perfect long, straight road nearby to go open it up on.

Update: After returning to stock settings, the clanging & banging machine gun fire noises went away and the engine sounds great so it was definitely a tune issue. Talked to the folks at Bama and they recommended not flashing the new tunes I have for the intake parts that should be delivered next week, but try all 3 of the current setups. Loaded the Performance tune and the car sounds as strong and healthy as ever.
So chalk one up to a corrupted file/bad flash....but problem solved! (my valves are healthy
