Detonation
I've been getting detonation sounds for a while now. It began when I wrote one of those custom Bama tunes from AM. I would get A LOT of detonation sounds when in fifth gear constantly.
I took the tune of and went back to the stock tune, every once in a while I will still hear it (not nearly as loud). I don't know if the bama tune caused this to happen or its always been happening and I never noticed until the tune magnified it.
The problem is I don't know what's causing it. The guys at Bama told me I should change out my spark plugs, fuel and air filters, which I did, but the problem is still there. They said that they shouldn't have to retard the timing on the tunes.
But I feel the problem is deeper than plugs or filters. Any ideas?

Running too lean can give you detonation problems.
You could have dirty injectors or a fuel pressure issue.
If the injectors have more than 30,000 miles or so I'd get them cleaned and flowed. I use an online company at www.mrinjector.us for this, they come back looking like brand new with a flow sheet showing the before and after flows.
If you have a hand held tuner for your Bama tune you should be able to data log.
I'd log the fuel pressure drop across the injectors and fuel pump duty cycle to makes sure you don't have a fuel supply problem.

The injectors do most likely have more than 30,000. They probably have about 85k on them I don't think they've ever been changed, I got the car last summer.
While I would like to send them out I can't. It's my only car, I wouldn't be able to get around.
The guys at BAMA also told me to try running sea foam through it. Is it worth a shot?

You might be able to find a local place to do the cleaning.
Also if you have a compressed air source its not that hard to hack up your own home brew injector cleaner. Basically you just need to put some voltage on the injector to switch it open and closed.
An old D cell flashlight housing works for this, run wires from the bulb connections to the injector pins and use the flashlight switch to open and close the injector.
Get a long piece of tubing that fits on top of the injectors, fill it with carb cleaner, connect compressed air to the top of it and use the flashlight switch to open and close the injector.
There are youtube examples of doing this, search "home made fuel injector cleaner" and you'll hit them.
Don't use a flammable solvent for this though, it might go boom.
I didn't answer your post just to try to sell you some injectors but I do have a set of pink 21# injectors that were cleaned and flowed by www.mrinjector.us .
They ran great on my 02 GT when it just had bolt ons and I also had a Bama tune. I put only around 1000 miles on them and then switched to a KB with bigger injectors.
The pink 21's came on 02-04 GT's but can be swapped in to the 99-01's without needing a re-tune.
I'll let them go for $110. including shipping, they come with the test flow sheet from mrinjector.
Send me a PM if you are interested in them.
All that said, the detonation you are getting could be dirty injectors but like Dawson said it also could be carbon build up or something else.
Take a look at your plugs and see if they have black deposits on them.
