Replaced 7 year old battery today and more
I went to start my 07 Pony today to get the annual emissions test. Dead and it's on a Battery Tender Plus. My dealer had the exact replacement in stock (I'm trying to keep her all OEM). I did a self install.
Now the fun begins. I have to put some miles on her to get the OBDII sensors ready. My tool reported 5 not ready. Well after about 20 miles I had it down to 2 not ready. I stop by the emissions test station and the gentleman tells me I can only have 1 not ready and suggested I drive 20 miles one way on the Interstate at a steady 65 MPH.
Here is where your going to start laughing at me just as my wife did in the passenger seat. I go to turn on the access ramp and the sky is dark. No, it wouldn't rain on my Pony. We weren't on the road 5 minutes when it started pouring rain.
My Pony only had 767 miles on her after 7 years until today and hadn't even seen a water hose, only detailing. Anyway, I held it together, passed the emission test, washed her when I got home, and added a few more miles to fully dry the engine and remove any rust from the disk brake roters.
I now have 840 miles on her, but she really did need a good bath. She looks really nice now after a full detail job. I plan on washing her a little more often now.

Many folks have had issues with the OE battery. My wife's '06 OE battery died in 2012. I replaced my '07 OE battery the end of '13 only because it was exhibiting issues. I felt comfortable that if it was the beginning of summer and not winter that I'd get another 6 months or more out of it.

Saving her for retirement 4.5 years from now when I turn 59.5.
I just bought my retirement present early and I think the '06 to '09 Pony Package has been the most retro looking OEM Mustang made in the last 20 years. That was the look I wanted and could care less if it had of come with a V6 or V8. I just wanted the retro look like my '70 Mustang I had when I was 16 in 1975.

I just changed my OEM 07 battery with 60K on the clock.
I went with the largest battery that would fit in the battery tray.
The alternator diode pack went south at the same time.
(related)? I got an upgraded 130A PAPerformance alternator.
Maybe the battery was not bad just the alternator but
when the 7 year mark rolled around on the battery, it
was destined to be replaced anyhow.
I dont drive my 09 Challenger in the rain.
How silly is that?
